FAQs

What is Curious Kind’s Return Policy?

You can view our Returns Policy for both retail and rental items here.

Please note that we do not currently offer exchanges. If you wish to exchange an item, please email us at hello@curiouskind.com.au so that we can help you with your return and check current stock levels and availability for your preferred item/s.

What happens if the clothes get dirty or damaged?

As parents we understand that kids get messy.

What we do ask is that you treat the clothes with the same care and respect, as if they were your own. If you have a major accident, stain or spill occurs, check our garment care tips on our website here. Alternatively you can contact us and we will help you as best we can. If you lose an item, don’t stress! It happens. All we ask is that you let us know and help out by paying a small re-stocking fee for the item.

Should I wash the clothes before returning them?

Ideally, yes. However it's not essential. When we receive any clothes back, they are thoroughly inspected, laundered and steamed by us before being sent to their next family.

Is renting clothes hygienic?

Absolutely! We know that the idea of renting clothes might have a bit of an ‘ick’ factor for some people. But don’t worry!

Clothes that have been worn before will be laundered, dried and steamed between rentals. This process will remove any germs or bacteria, leaving clothes cleaner than any you might buy in the shops (or get in hand-me-downs!). We inspect every item before it leaves us so that we can be sure that our rental items are in as-new condition. You can start wearing your gorgeous pre-loved rental items the moment they land on your doorstep!

If you select to rent brand new clothes they will not have been worn or laundered. They may have been steamed.  You should remove their tags and wash them before their first wear as you would any new clothes.

What condition are the pre-loved rental clothes in?

All pre-loved rental items are in as new condition unless stated otherwise on our website. If a pre-loved item is not as-new and it is continuing to be offered (due to popularity or a minor defect), this will be clearly marked and reflected in the price. Every item is inspected before it leaves us as part of our stringent quality control practices. Your trust in us is what will make this circular model work, so we make it our business to send you only high quality clothes in beautiful condition. If you are not completely satisfied with the condition of a pre-loved item that you receive, please contact us at hello@curiouskind.com.au so that we can rectify the situation.

Part of our mission is to make sure that all of our products live their best lives and stay out of landfill. So rental items that are no longer in circulation will be sorted and reused or recycled based on their condition.

Why is renting better than buying?

If you opt for one of our monthly clothing rental subscriptions, you can either select individual pieces or choose from one of our popular curated bundles. You might want to rent the main staple items of your kid’s wardrobes or supplement their existing stash. Rental items can be swapped out for seasonal changes, larger sizes or just a refresh when you need it. The average rental time for an item is 3 to 4 months. This means you can give your kids the most adorable wardrobe every season and pay only a fraction of the total retail price.

You will NEVER pay more than the RRP for an item of clothing. If you rent it for so long that you've paid its full price, you now own it! And it will then become eligible for our Little Loop Return Program (winning!). You can cancel your subscription at any time. As always, we will take care of the next life of all of our garments when they are no longer in circulation.

By offering both retail and rental options we essentially give you a way to try before you buy. You can do your own math and if you think it will work out to be more cost effective, you can buy your pieces from us and be eligible for our Little Loop Return Program. Either way, you'll be participating in a circular model, you’ll only be paying for what you need and you’ll be saving on a whole lot of storage space in your home.

What is circular fashion?

Alarmingly, Australians are currently disposing of 6,000kg of fashion and textile waste every 10 minutes, according, to the ABC's War on Waste Program.  It means that on average, each Australian is throwing out 23 kilograms of clothes a year. When you consider that it takes 2,700 litres of water to make one cotton T-shirt (which is enough drinking water for one person for 2.5 years), as reported by the WWF, it pretty clear that this current model is resource intensive, highly polluting and completely unsustainable.

Circular fashion is about the design, manufacture and use of clothing and textiles in such a way that they can be used and circulate responsibly and effectively in society for as long as possible in their most valuable form. Then, when they are no longer suitable for use, they can be returned safely to the environment, as a resource rather than waste.

The concept of circular fashion removes waste completely from the equation. This is not a new concept by any means. However, it is gaining more attention as people become more aware of their own environmental footprints and more conscious of the environmental challenges and legacies left facing our younger generations.

Clothing is a fairly essential item in life, required by almost every person on the planet. However, the current linear model of take, make, waste is completely unsustainable.  Overconsumption due to the pace and widespread appeal of the cheapness and newness that fast fashion now offers is contributing to this glut of fashion and textile waste that ends up in landfill. According to the ABC Australians are the world's second largest consumers of textiles, buying an average of 27 kilograms of new clothing and other textiles each year.

We’re here to provide families with a new practical, adorable and convenient way to dress their little people. We know that babies and children grow so quickly and sometimes the growth spurts come out of nowhere. Shopping with Curious Kind means you’ll never have to worry about this. We’ve got an affordable way to make sure your kids are prepared for every season.

This is like hand-me-downs (we all love hand-me-downs), but better! No sifting through clothes to work out what to keep and what to donante (or toss). No large piles of clothes that your children are waiting to grow into. Keep your precious storage space for something better! Best of all (we think) is that we only partner with ethical and sustainable brands. So your kids are going to be wearing some of the kindest brands around. They care about your children’s skin (only the natural fibres here!) and they care about the people who make their clothes and the planet too. This is feel good fashion for kids! Even if you buy your clothes from us, we want to reward you for returning them to us once they’ve lived their best life (in any condition) by giving you store credit for future purchases. We want to take care of their next life and make sure that they don’t end up in landfill.

How do I know that I am receiving good quality clothes?

All of our pre-loved items for purchase or for rent are in as new condition, unless otherwise stated on our website. All of our items are laundered to a high standard using planet and skin friendly products. We inspect each item individually before sending it to a new family. We give you the option to rent new or pre-loved. If you opt to rent new items, these will come with original tags still attached. All new items will need to be washed before they are worn.

Will I save money by renting?

We sure hope so! By offering both retail and rental options Curious Kind allows you to do the math and work out what is going to be more cost effective for you.

Need a winter coat for 3 months? Why not pay ~$15 per month to rent one ($45 in total) instead of $100+ for a new one that they won’t fit into next year? Got a couple of kids? Why not buy one that can be handed down and then return it to us for store credit when you're finished (via our [Little Loop Return Program].

Renting from us also essentially allows you to try before you buy. Start renting from us, get to know our brands and our sizes. If you’ve used an item for a month and decided its not for you, you can send it back. There’s not many stores that allow you to send things back once the tags are off and all you’ve paid is a monthly rental fee.

Will I pay more than an item is worth if I rent it?

Never! If you rent an item for so long that you’ve paid the value of its RRP (listed on our website). You now own it! Its even still eligible for our Little Loop Return Program so you can keep using it and then return it to us for store credit once you no longer need it.

How are the clothes laundered?

Our laundry partners use planet and skin friendly products for all of our laundering. Each item is individually inspected for any damage or marks before it is sent out to a new family. We only rent out pre-loved items that are in as-new condition (unless otherwise stated on our website or approved by you).

Why is this better than hand-me-downs?

Hand-me-downs are the best! We’re offering something even better though. You only receive items that fit properly, you don’t have to store surplus items until they fit. Everything is getting used and you’re not taking up valuable storage space in your home. Most people giving you hand me downs will say ‘Take what you want and then give the rest to charity’, but how often do we leave the charity pile sitting around our home for way too long. And did you know that only about 15% of clothes that are donated to charity in Australia actually stay in circulation here? The rest get sold as industrial rages, sold overseas or sent to landfill. Best of all...we even pay YOU store credit for your hand-me-downs if you return any items you’ve purchased from Curious Kind via our Little Loop Return Program

What are your clothes made from?

We are on a mission to provide planet and people friendly clothing to as many families as we can. That’s why all of the items we stock are made from natural fibres (organic as much as possible). Because we are a circular business we are also conscious of the next life of all of the clothes we stock, so we want to make sure that these fabrics can be reused, repurposed or recycled as easily and in as many ways as possible. Therefore, we avoid man-made fabric products as much as possible and we avoid fabric blends that may be hard to recycle.

We have tried to supply only organic fabrics where possible, so that you can rest assured that your children’s skin as well as the environment is being cared for. The fabric composition is listed for each item we stock. We also include extra information about all of our brand partners, their values and their supply chains. All of the research has been done for you. Only genuinely ethical and sustainable clothing here.

You can find out more about our brand’s mission in our Sustainability section or on our Blog

How do I send the clothes back?

We will provide you with a return shipping label. Place your items in a postage satchel. You can reuse the one we sent you (just make sure it’s secured). Attach the label and pop it in a post box. Simple!

Already used your return shipping label and have more items to send back? Contact us at hello@curiouskind.com.au and we’ll email you another one straight away.

What if I don’t like all of the items that are sent?

Not as good in person? We want you to be completely happy and we want to perfect our circular model! All of our purchased and rented items can be returned for a full refund as long as this is done in accordance with our Returns Policy. Note that there are different return timeframes for purchased and rental items.

How can I give feedback about the clothing I’ve received?

We want to know everything you have to say. Good and bad. Please contact us at hello@curiouskind.com.au to provide feedback. Tell us how the clothes have worn, your thoughts about their quality and their design. We also feed this information back to our brand partners so that they can design more high quality and long lasting clothing. We are all about minimising the environmental impact of fashion. This starts at the design phase so you as the end user have some great data that we’ve love you to share.
